What are you hungry for?

Dear Me,

Do you ever just ask yourself what you are hungry for? It's a question that often gets lost in the shuffle of daily life. We move through our days with gratitude, acknowledging the blessings we have, yet there's this persistent yearning deep within us. It's a hunger, a craving for something more. Sometimes it's as simple as a hug or a heartfelt "I love you," but more often than not, it's a deeper need that we struggle to identify.

As we reflect on our journey, we may come to realize that our needs were often neglected in our formative years. We learned to prioritize the needs of others above our own, becoming proficient caretakers but forgetting how to care for ourselves. It's no wonder we find ourselves unsure of how to tap into our own needs now.

Instead of addressing our hunger with mindfulness and intention, we often seek temporary fixes - indulging in food, drink, shopping, or overworking. These distractions may momentarily fill the void, but they do little to address the underlying causes of our hunger.

As I delve into my core, I find myself confronted with unfamiliar territory. I've spent so much time wearing different hats, fulfilling the expectations of others, that I've neglected to nurture my own identity. I've bent and twisted myself to fit the mold of what others needed, sacrificing my own truth in the process.

But here's the irony: in my efforts to protect and please others, I neglected the one person who truly needed my care - myself. I longed to feel seen, heard, and understood, not by others, but by me. I realized that no one else could fill the void within me, just as I couldn't fill theirs. Our hunger, our voids, our cravings - they're ours and ours alone to address.

So how do we learn to show up for ourselves? It begins with accountability. We must take ownership of our actions, recognizing that only through self-accountability can we truly nourish ourselves. It's not selfish to prioritize self-care; it's essential.

Let's commit to listening to ourselves, honoring our needs, and nurturing our souls. Let's embrace honesty and integrity, both with ourselves and with others. And let's remember that the journey to self-discovery and self-love is ongoing, but oh so worth it.

With love and compassion,

Me
